What it is
Vulcanising joins conveyor belt ends into an endless loop using heat and pressure (hot vulcanising) or chemical adhesives (cold bonding), producing a splice that can approach the belt's rated strength when done correctly. Mechanical fasteners are an alternative for emergencies or certain light duties, but many South African mines prefer hot splices for critical high-tension belts.
Crews bring presses, cooling, belting tools and splice kits sized to belt width and carcass type. Steel-cord belts need different procedures from fabric plies. Process plants and sugar mills schedule splices around seasonal or maintenance windows. Warehouse package belts less often need hot vulcanising but still use cold bond or fastener services.
Remote Northern Cape or Limpopo sites incur travel and stand-by time that should appear transparently in quotations.
